Oktoberfest Costume
The Oktoberfest is a 12 day long festival of food, drink and Bavarian culture in Germany. However, it's celebration is certainly not limited to their country. Plenty of people have brought Oktoberfest into the American culture and we've certainly made it our own. All across the country people celebrate the holiday as a chance to reaffirm their heritage or a chance to explore another culture. While some, simply see it as a chance to enjoy good food and drink!
No matter your reasons for celebrating Oktoberfest, one of the lingering traditions of this holiday is costumery. Many times you'll see traditional dancers wearing the Lederhosen associated with Bavarian woodsmen or even men and women wandering around in western style cowboy hats while enjoying a Brat. This holiday is no stranger to costumes and you can easily hold a costume party for your Oktoberfest celebrations.
Consider getting into the season with proper cultural wear. If you don't own a pair of lederhosen improvise. Wear a white long sleeve shirt with green suspenders and green shorts. Don't forget the hat and the ax! Hopefully, your ax is a prop and not the real thing.
Get the kids involved in dressing up with an Alpine Boy costume for the boys and even getting the girls to look like Heidi. They'll look absolutely adorable and you'll have plenty of photo opportunities for the family album. However, you choose to celebrate Oktoberfest, a costume party will provide the guests with additional fun and a chance to get really creative.
