Memorial Day
COOKIES
|
 |
Memorial Day is a time-honored occasion that is honored and celebrated throughout the nation; sometimes with the able assistance of some delicious homemade cookies.
As Memorial Day ranks among the ultimate traditional holidays, one which must be observed at all times with both warmth and respect, the host may wish to stick to the classics when it comes to homemade cookies. She might want to leave excessively bright and trendy baked goods for another time, opting instead for classic cookies that stand as symbols of the American experience. These could include chocolate chip, oatmeal, ginger, sugar or peanut butter; or, for that matter, a classic combination of any of these flavors. Who doesn’t love chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, for example, or peanut butter oatmeal. In keeping with the traditional theme, the host could present and serve these cookies on beautiful china or porcelain plates in delicate floral patterns; or, even more in keeping with the holiday, on plates that come emblazoned with images of the American flag.
Or, as another variation on the ever patriotic nature of Memorial Day, the host could bake rich bar-style homemade cookies in the shape of the American flag; emblazoning them with those signature colors (red, white and blue) which form the flag’s design. The host could create a stunning likeness of the American flag on each cookie; or, as an alternative, she could bake standard round cookies, creating a smaller iced emblem of the flag at the center of each cookie.
In addition to homemade cookies, younger guests at a Memorial Day party might enjoy coloring in some vibrant Coloring Pages, that themselves show images of the American flag, the bald eagle, and other patriotic symbols.
