Luau Costume

Holding a luau and wearing a costume to it can be a fun and enjoyable activity in both respects. For one, a luau is probably one of the most enjoyable of party activities and it’s certainly one where people can let their hair down, so to speak. It really doesn’t matter where a luau is going to be held, though; what matters is that people have a good time at it.

In that regard, coming up with a good luau costume – whether it’s homemade or not – needs to be given some priority. For sure, there’s no end to costume stores that sell items that have to do with Hawaii and the idea of a luau, but – in truth – many such items for a good luau party can also be made from clothing and other items that people already own.

Nowadays, outside of traditional Hawaiian costumes that come with grass skirts, headdresses and Hawaiian leis, a luau today may also feature attendees dressed in board shorts and cool surf T-shirts or the famous Hawaiian tourist “aloha” shirts worn by just about every actor in Elvis Presley’s famous “Blue Hawaii” movie or any number of actors in the typical Hawaii Five-O episode. For a more modern day rendition of such shirts, consider Magnum PI, and the many different shirts that Thomas Magnum (a.k.a. Tom Selleck) wore in any given episode.

A luau, then, is first of all an enjoyable get-together and celebration where a lot of good food and equally-nice drinks can be enjoyed. It can also make for a good excuse for a costume party. Such costumes can be homemade or they can be bought from a store. For a simple luau costume, consider wearing a pair of board shorts and a surf T-shirt or a nice Hawaiian flowered shirt.
