Hippies Rum Cake

At my girlfriends Hippie theme party, they gave these pieces of Rum cake and I was so amazed by the flavor I could not keep my hands off of it, its so yummy try and see for yourself, then make it for your next big party its great.

1 package Duncan Hines Golden Butter Cake Mix
3 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup white or golden rum
1/2 cup water
1 small package of instant vanilla pudding
1/3 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Grease heavily and flour a bundt pan. Sprinkle nuts on bottom of pan. Mix all ingredients and pour into pan over nuts. Bake at 325 for 50-60 minutes.

While the cake is baking, get ready to make the glaze. The glaze should be ready at the same time the cake is done.

Glaze
1 stick butter
1/4 cup rum
1 cup sugar

Put glaze ingredients in a small pan and heat til boiling and let boil for 2 minutes, no longer. Pour glaze around outside of cake pan immediately upon removing from oven and let cool in pan for twenty minutes. Remove from pan.

Rum Cake

Chocolate Chip Rum Cake

1 package Duncan Hines yellow cake mix
1 6 oz package Jello instant chocolate pudding
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup oil
1 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 teaspoon vanilla
6-8 tablespoons rum

Mix all ingredients for 12 minutes at high speed. Bake in bunt pan at 350 about 1 hour. Cool - invert onto cake platter.

Make up your own granola for the dessert or just something for the guests to snack on at the party. Swiss Chard is a classic healthful food for the hippies party. You can make up a Frittata with it. The guests will get a kick out of fondue with gherkins, bread and meat.

Swiss Chard Frittata

For this healthy hippies dish you’ll need the following ingredients: 1 lb Swiss chard, 4 garlic cloves, minced, 1 cup chopped onions, 2 teaspoons olive oil, 6 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper , and 1 medium tomato, sliced.

Chop of the Swiss Chard. Sauté garlic and onions in a tablespoon of oil. Add the chard to the garlic and onion in the saucepan. Cover the pan and lower the heat on the oven. Cook the mixture for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and drain excess liquid from the saucepan. Crack eggs into a large bowl and beat with pepper and salt until mixed. Stir in the cooked chard mixture. Coat the bottom of the skillet with oil. Heat up on medium heat. When the oil is hot pour the eggs into the pan. Arrange tomato slices on top. Cover the pan and cook until the edges are down and the bottom of the egg is golden brown. Flip over the frittata and cook the top for 5 minutes.

You’ll have the guests at you hippies party eating out of your hand with this classic treat. If you want you can add a little Swiss cheese to the frittata for some extra flavor. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create a complete Hippies theme party feeling.
