Flag Day THEME |
 |
What is the true meaning behind Flag Day? Often times we commemorate holidays or special events in history through the reservation of a special day. In the case of the national flag, we reserve the day of June 14th as Flag Day but why we choose to separate Flag Day from Independence Day is of an important note. There was a great deal of thought that went into the creation of the American flag aside from its historical declaration of America being its own country.
June 14th, Flag Day, was not however the first day our flag was hung with recognition. In 1977, the Continental Congress suggested that our national flag be represented by something other than the British Union Jack and so was selected our fist flag but previously to this official suggestion, Betsy Ross had already created a version of the American flag. On January 1, 1776, first flag of the country, the Grand Union, hung on a flag pole outside of the Continent Army headquarters; George Washington declared the principles behind the design to show the stars to represent the colonies and the separation of red to show America’s separation from the rule of Great Britain.
The essence behind our flag colors bring to light our struggle for independence. Independence from our mother country for our sake of religious freedom the five pointed star to respect each formed colony under one united governing body. The ring of patriotism brought through the colors of a flag runs deep as it conveys loyalty and honor in being part of a greater purpose. The honor displayed through a commemorative Flag Day appropriately allocates recognition for those that worked so hard in creating such a thought provoking and stately piece of work as a display of independence and patriotism.
So, on the next June 14th, our Flag Day, remember when placing your hand to your heart to show gratitude for what we have as being American citizens but to also truly feel what our flag stands for: independence and patriotism brought through some very reflective artwork.

Flag Day Cake Ideas
Need a new reason to make something many enjoy, how about doing a Flag Day birthday cake in honor the flag. Just what does one need to make this kind of cake, check out the following party supplies list to get a better idea. First the cake mix, something like red velvet will do the job and remember to pickup eggs and oil for the cake. In other words check the back for directions and what is need to make it. Next the decorations for the cake. The frosting will be a white butter cream style to create the background to work with on the cake. Once the frosting has set, then it is time to get to the decorations, which is where the party supplies come into play. Start by picking up two dozen miniature flags for use on the cake, some red and blue icing. Also pick up some red and blue sprinkles, no need for white. Start with placing the flags around the edge of the cake and block on a section for stars field, like that of a flag. Run evenly spaced red lines of icing in the larger area, then repeat with the blue or try making some stars. Last top with the sprinkles as desired.

Flag Day Party Music Play Lists
Flag Day is an annual holiday that celebrates the beauty, dignity and timeless history of the red, white and blue; and, as an object of endless admiration around the world, the flag has inspired the composition of a number of great patriotic songs.
Enliven any Flag Day celebration with a tuneful and festive Flag Day playlist. The songs could include:
Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American) by Toby Keith
The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa
You’re a Grand Old Flag by George M. Cohan
Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwood
The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key
Yankee Doodle Dandy by George M. Cohan
Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
This most patriotic playlist must be supplemented with the best, most theme-appropriate party supplies. Red, white and blue tableware is only the beginning; the host also could place an American flag centerpiece made of foil or paper mache, hanging additional flags from the ceiling. A Betsy Ross collector’s doll would make another nice touch, as would star pattern mugs straight from the Betsy Ross House. Guests would love a Stars and Stripes wine caddy, as well as fun take home party tokens like flag pins and pens (of the wearing and writing varieties).
